Mike Mearle seems to be very open to the public about what we might want in 5e.
From the new type of initiative he's experimented with to this new nugget of thought!
For those not wanting to go to Twitter he asked basically what would we want to see for tool use.
Some of the comments makes sense, primarily that theives tools not be the only real useful tool around. That if your proficient in say brewing you'd recognize brewers equipment and the hardware associated.
Down time and ability check to set a stone in a jewelry kit.
Jerry rigging something to work like another tool but less efficient.
What do you guys think if a subset of rules governing the use of a more broader set of tools?
