In the game, there are five normal ways for player characters to acquire experience:
1. By Role-Playing Well
When a player performs an exceptional and appropriate piece of role-playing, they can earn an experience bonus equal to one-twentieth (1/20) the base number of points he needs to get to the next level. These can include good alignment play (for example if it's harder, less profitable or less convenient than ignoring alignment), exceptional heroism or sacrifice (without the promise of resurrection or a sure victory), or other exceptional role-playing, limited to one bonus per session. 2. By Achieving Party Goals
When the characters achieve a major goal, they earn experience equal to the XP Value of monsters defeated in reaching that goal. 3. By Defeating Monsters and Opponents
4. By Acquiring Treasure
5. By Performing Exceptional Actions When a player performs an exceptional action, you can award him an experience bonus equal to one-twentieth (1/20) the base number of points he needs to get to the next level. Two common types of exceptional actions include saving allies from harm and exceptional skill use.
