recap of information - More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. in addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called The Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good and the nearby human town of Phandalin prospered as well. But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path. A powerful force of prcs reinforced by enil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost. The Rockseeker Brothers (Gundren, Tharden and Nundro) recently located an entrance to the long lost Wave Echo Cave, site of the mines of the Phandelver's Pact.
- Klarg, the bugbear that led the goblins in the cave in which Sildar Hallwinter died, had orders to waylay Gundren Rockseeker. Someone known as the Black Spider sent word that Gundren was to be sent to him.
- The Black Spider hired the Redbrands, under the leadership of Glassstaff, to frighten off adventurers and initimidate the locals. The Black Spider sent bugbears to reinforce the Rebbrands and provide extra muscle.
- Gundren had a map showing the secret location of Wave Echo Cave but it was taken when he was. It is believed it was sent to somewhere called Cragmaw Castle
- Elmar Barthen, proprietor of Barthen's Provisions is still waiting for the return of Nundro and Tharden Rockseeker. They are camped somewhere outside ton and haven;t been seen in over a tenday, although Bathen expected them back by now to resupply.
- You have heard that Daran Edermath, the orchard keeper in Phandalin, is a former adventurer.Daran has heard stories from prospectors in the hills northeast of Phandalin that someone is digging around the ruins known as the Old Owl Well. More disturbingly, several prospectors have reported being chased from the area by undead. he asks that you visit the ruins, a couple of days march northeast of Phandalin, and find out who;s there and what they're up to.
- You have heard that orc raiders have been seen on the east end of the Triboar Trail. The townmaster is looking for someone to run them off. Townmaster Harbin has offered 100gp to any group that can head east on the Triboar Trail and deal with the band of orcs near Wyvern Tor.
- The town is very happy the Redbrands have been finished; odd they bothered every business in town except for the Phandalin Miner's Exchange; they reportedly didn't want trouble with Halia Thornton, the person who runs the Exchange.
- There is a druid named Reidoth in the area. He knows this land very well. His longtime friend Qelline Alderleaf, a local farmer, may know where he is.
- Sister Garaele, acolyte of Tymora, has asked that Faelon bring a jeweled silver comb to a banshee named Agatha, to ask what became of a spellbook belonging to someone named Bowgentle. Sister Garaele provides directions to Agatha's lair and suggests someone flatter Agatha's vanity while presenting the gift. Sister Garaele has already given Faelon three potions of healing as payment for undertaking the quest.
- Glassstaff knows the Black Spider is a drow and is searching Wave Echo Cave for the Forge of Spells.
- Mirna Dendrar has offered the party a family heirloom as thanks for rescuing her and her children. When she was a young girl her and her family fled the town of Thundertree after undead overran the place. her family had an herb and alchemy shop, inside which a case containing an emerald necklace was hidden beneath a section of storage shelves. She never dared to return and retrieve it. The shop was in the southeast part of Thundertree.
