Szass Tam, the lich lord of Thay, and his Red Wizards threaten to dominate all of the Sword Coast. The Bloodgate, an elemental node of power, must be destroyed in order to stop him.

Hurdock journal entry: Made nice with a family of owlbears today. Even as I write this, Whelm shares my puzzlement as to how that happened. Mere minutes after our peaceful overtures, we dropped a half dozen Chokers from their perches. As an end to the day, one of our party members appears to have been bonded into a weapon. Whelm seems fascinated, but I worry what may come of it. Perhaps an idea will come to me soon...

From the Journal of Thalin Dragonslayer
It is an evil place. I cannot speak of that with it was, but it is a place devoid of all that is good and right. Were it not for a number of my companions, it would be a place without any morality. There are two Drow brothers among us... They are unlike others of their kind... Though, I know not how unlike their kind they will prove to be... A fair druid lass is also among us... Though she spends more time in other forms than in her own comely shape... Others have come and gone... Others will come and go... The Dragonborn Paladin is worthy and true. Alone among us, she was not seduced by the Vampyre scum that waylaid us into this hell... I am soul bound dead... If I am unable to be restored from this evil existence, I will fall if I try to leave... The Paladin shares my fate... So we continue to scour this evil lair... If nothing else, perhaps we can rid the world of the evils that lurk here... If that is to be my final act, it is one that I am resigned to and can, perhaps, be satisfied with... Especially if it includes ridding the realm of the undead scum that stated my resolve... I shall gladly put a stake through its loathsome lifeless heart...

The drow is bonded with a weapon. I wonder if this is how Whelm came to be, but to a far lesser extent. "Whelm doesn't recall, or won't tell me."
A beholder is a tough adversary, yet we add that to our growing number of victories. It has been a long time since White Plume. I hope my continued struggles serve in penance for abandoning my friends.
Her holiness answered my prayers and gave me some answers, if only these answers didnt in turn provoke more questions.

From the Stone Tome of Thalin Dragonslayer...
Never before have I been rendered so useless as I was in facing the Beholder... His magickal evil rendered me slowed and afraid...against my will... What is more, as he was flying high above us and at a distance, I could do little to help my companions... It was they who again managed to win the day... I was far more effective against the Undead infestation we then faced... I waded in the battle and was covered in the gore and blood of the fray... I helped in felling the Zombie Ogres and a number of the smaller walkers...
The Drow brothers, while still members of that much maligned and evil race, do not seem to have the consuming evil that many of their ilk exhibit. In fact, while this group lacks a pure caster, these are allies with whom I can and am proud to battle alongside. They have shown this same loyalty to me, and have saved me from a passing far worse than death at the hands of the Illithid...
If ever we escape this accused realm, perhaps then we might be better be able to enjoy the spoils of battle and the time to develop real friendships..... In truth, I doubt that either I or the Paladin - both now marked as Soulbound Dead - are likely to escape this dark hell called Thay. However, if in our falling our comrades might destroy the evil herein contained and survive, then we will not have died in vain...

So much has happened since we have entered this awful place. It is hard to believe it has been only a few days since we agreed to help the rebels. In that time we have seen a few fall, myself included, only to rise again and find our souls bound to this terrible place. The drows, I honestly can't remember which is which, but one has, due to his brothers actions found his spirit trapped within the confines of a magic pike. Sadly it seems to have limited his ability in combat as he typically fought with two weapons. If he lets go of the pike for any reason he collapses to the ground. There is some glimer of hope, in the room where we slayed the beholder we found additional gate keys. Finally we can access the Necromancers lair and free our souls from this accursed placed. We head there now having cleared the way through the Legion Outpost. We will set our souls free and continue our search for the phylactery vault and we will see the defeat of the evils that call this place home.
