It's a few weeks before Midsummer. Why should anyone travel the cracked cobblestones of the Old Road? The fortress that once cast its shadow across the road does so no longer - some whisper that the earth swallowed the fortress whole in an age long past. Four brave adventurers resolved to discover the truth and set off down the Old Road, but they never returned.
Every sorceress worth her salt needs a good familiar. I didnt count on this one. Monty the raven came to me after his previous owner sold him for drugs. He didn't seem too disappointed to be with me, as I fed him crepes first thing. I dont know what ravens eat, but this guy likes chocolate and cheese apparently.
My kobold friend, Biscuit, and I headed into a new town called Oakhurst with Monty in search of a chocolate fountain. He heard rumors that there was a really good one here, and I knew a little about a Sunless Citadel that i wanted to discover. As long as this adventure ends in fortune or melted chocolate, at least one of us will be happy.
My back hurts from carrying Biscuit, but she doesnt want to get killed by a good intentioned townsfolk. I never met a Kobold before this one, but she worships the ground I walk on... all because I killed a huge wild boar for dinner one night. She thought it was a monster and seems to think I'm a reincarnated dragon? I wonder if I'll attract any other strange companions.

The little kobold cowers from us, crying and mewling. Biscuit tries to calm it, but it doesn't seem to trust her. I thought all kobolds would be friendly with eachother? I know very little about them, even though I've been traveling with Biscuit for a while.
"Its okay, little guy!" I pull out a trail ration and hold out a piece to the creature.
"CAW!" Monty shouts, and dive bombs my hand. "Those are mine!"
"Monty!!!" I swat him away, and break the ration in two.
My crazy raven beats me repeatedly in the face with his wings while Biscuit talks to the kobold.
"I lost my dragon!" It cries.
I finally get Monty's wings pinned to his sides and tuck him to my chest. The kobold holds out his hand, giving me pleading eyes, and I give him half the ration. He sniffles as he chews, and then sits up.
"So what brings you here?"
The others tell him about rumors of the citadel. I tell him the honest truth.
"Monty and I are searching for a chocolate fountain. We heard there was a fountain here."
"I don't know what that means."
"Its like a fountain. With brown liquid."
The kobold recoils, giving me a disgusted look. He tells us about the kobold tribe he is part of and that they have a dragon, but goblins stole it. His name is Meepo.
"My master is a dragon!" Biscuit tells him, pointing at me. "She is fierce but a kind master."
Meepo looks at me in a mix of awe and disappointment.
"Is she a rescue?"
Meepo agrees to take us to his leader, Ustrad or something, after instructing us to pretend he is in charge. I release Monty after he promises to behave, and he walks on the ground behind Meepo, marching and mocking everything he says. We come to a hall with pillars and relief carvings of dragons on the walls. There are three kobold guards.
"Hi, boys!" Meepo says.
"Meeepo... dont look behind you!" One warns. "Adventurers!"
They point their weapons, but Meepo shoos them down.
"Which one of you speaks for the tall people?" Asks a guard.
Lothar, one of the three new adventurers that joined us unnoticed by me in the thick of battling my familiar, steps forward. The monk puts a hand over his mouth. Lothar does not seem to be a bright fellow. The bard and Biscuit talk to them, and they decide to bring us to the leader.
The three guards form up, and it's actually adorable. They March us all of thirty feet, and we come to a short throne with a horned figure. Their leader, another little adorable kobold. She has six guards and above her is another carving of a dragon with a key in its mouth. I recall a similar carving that held a lock in the other room.
"Who approaches Ustrad?" She calls, and then sees Meepo.
"Step forward, you idiot!" She demands.
Hallstein takes a step forward, as does Lothar. Poor Meepo is sent to the corner for losing the dragon. However, he didn't lose it, it was stolen. By goblins. Ustrad offers us a reward if we can return the dragon to them. The monk asks if humans have been through here, and apparently some went after the goblins but never returned. That's just great.
"Is it a real dragon?" I ask.
Suddenly all of the kobolds are offended and jeering at me. Biscuit comes to my defense, but when she mentions that I carried her around in my backpack they are livid.
"We are the chosen of the dragons, foolish elf!"
"She is a dragon!" Biscuit announces.
We take off before I offend anyone else, and are given Meepo as our guide. The dragon we are looking for is a white wyrmling named Calcrix. Whites are notoriously feral, so this baby is not going to be easy to wrangle if we find him. Fortunately Meepo is his favorite chew toy, and has the scars to prove it.
We come to a room with just rat droppings in it, and all of us are convinced theres got to be something interesting. I walk around the perimeter, checking the walls for secret doors. Willow gives me a strange look.
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah. I like walls."
Biscuit finds a trap on the visible door, but when she tries to disable it a bell rings on the other side. All of us try kicking the door down, but can't get it. My poor toes. Hallstein walks up, turns the handle, and it opens! Now we all look stupid.
"A fountain!" Hallstein shouts.
I can feel Montys claws digging into my back. I move up to it, and get a good look. Theres a relief carving of a dragon, but the fountain is dry. No sign of chocolate.
"This isn't up to code." Monty says disappointedly.
Theres an inscription in what looks like draconic, and the monk reads it.
Red liquid flows out at the command, filling the basin. I touch it, and it doesnt hurt, so I taste some. Instantly I feel the need to belch, and cant hold it in. Flame shoots from my mouth!
"Does anyone have a bottle?!"
"I'll be right back, master!" Biscuit squeaks, and runs from the room.
She returns quickly, handing me a used potion jar. I dip it in and fill it with the fire breathing liquid.
"Its not chocolate, but better!"
Monty is sulking. I promised him a chocolate fountain, and all we got was a fireball fountain. I will not stop looking, one day we WILL find what we've been looking for. Theres a fancy door with carvings of skeletal dragons on it, and apparently the inscription above it reads "channel good, open the way." Irene tries to open it and a scything blade chops down on her. Guess we weren't good channeling hard enough.
Our cleric, off having a break, comes running in and channels positive, and the door glows and then opens silently.
"Alright, back to tea. Have fun!" He runs off again.
I wait in the room while the monk and Irene go in. It's dead silent until the sound of stone blowing open. I see the cat woman fall to the ground, and then skeletons start moving about. I cast disrupt undead, and one looks pretty disrupted. Lothar bravely runs in and starts hitting stuff before going down after many hits. They start coming through the door towards us. Hallstein is brutalizing them as they come through. I manage to magic missile, and then Biscuit surprises me by shattering it.
"I'll protect you, mistress!"
"Good job, Biscuit!"
The battle is over soon, many of us having given amazing hits and some taking them. I go into the room and see Irene and Lothar lying there. I check Irene, and she's beyond our aid.
"You were a good cat," I say, petting her fur. "Thank you."
I go to check out the candle burning on a shelf, but it seems like a normal candle to me. There is however a potion of some sort, which I sip. Tastes minty and cooling. Somehow i think it counteracts the effects of my other potion. I go back to the candle and try to snuff it out with some of the potion. Nothing. I blow it. Still lit! It doesnt even go out when I try to snuff it with my fingers.
"This candle doesn't stop burning!"
The party tells me to hold onto it, as it could come in handy. Biscuit finds some gems in the shapes of dragons.
"I really, really like these mistress!" She looks so happy.
"Keep them, then, you've earned it."
She also has the whistle that Irene had been holding. It's in the shape of a small dragon. Biscuit blows it, but nothing happens other than a whistling noise.
"Master, hold these for me!" She hands me the gems. "Gems for Sorsha!"
I take the small chest and hand it off to Hallstein.
"I'll let him carry them, my back is sore. But thank you."
The bard recognizes the whistle to be dwarven make, and unholy. I hope it has something to do with our missing dragon and not something nefarious. I grab the sunrod from our dead cat, and stow the candle.
"Baminos, little Biscuit! Come, Monty! We have goblins to kill and a dragon to save!"
- Sorsha D'Explora, Mistress of Kobolds. Definitely not a dragon.

Im Lazerius known affectionally as Biscuit by Mistress Sorsha and followers. Im a special kobold, my scales are green. I am special. I am the best follower because i am special. I am above all except master. I don't tell my mistress this. Big secret. My tribe was once a noble and proud tribe lead by the great green dragon. The day great green dragon was slain, i was born. when i hatched was worshiped as a gift to all kobold. Tribe tells me so, so it must be true. One day the tribe got too big so me followers split to form new tribe and i lead them to a new path of greatness and glory. Suddenly tragedy. I fell into a bog. I was stuck very good. My subjects tried very very hard but they failed. With great tears they placed flowers around the bog, i bless them, they departed as i wait for death. Death takes a long time to take. I waited for so long. Suddenly a monster pig came charging out of the trees but not a second later did it combust into flames and die. That is when i was beholden to Mistress Sorsha. I knew right away she was a dragon. Only a dragon can weild such powerful magic. As merciful as she is fierce she lifted me out of the sinkhole, freeing me to live once again. Now my life belongs to her. We've traveled for a long time, i hide in her bag after our first incident in town. A barmaid pummeled me with a broom till she thought i died, broke my poor bones. We traveled to we reached town then i see two legged cat sneaking up on us from behind. Eyes mistresses bird. I can not allow talking bird to be eaten. That is mine. I hiss and alter mistress with a poke in the back. Startles cat and alerts Mistress. Also alerts a group of strangers confused by the commotion. Stupid cat thinks i'm a bag, Cat rambles on and on about Chocolate fountains, gets bird talking. Silly idea, but she then she brought up a good idea. Getting omelets. Me and my mistress have a system when we get to town. I pass her notes under the table, she buys my items and needs, i stick my gold in her wallet once its back in the bag. Mistress tells me i should work on my quiet eating and i tell her my advice on the gnome cleric. Don't trust the gnome cleric. they are all sneak thieves and liars. They like to collapse tunnels. Mistress tells me that i should be more open minded but they are gnomes. Finially the bag meets the ground and mistress gives me the ok. As i crawl out i meet mistresses new followers and allies in our quest of finding gold. two half orcs, Hollstein and his pig farming brother Halg. Hollstein, he calls me sweet. The cat, Irien, is fabbergasted that i am indeed not a backpack. believes kobolds weren't real huh. We standing in front of a deep cliff leading to our destination, if only i had wings . A friend i knew had wings. I want wings but i was not born with wings, i was born bright green and rust red. We scales down, fought some rats and Hollstein saved me some for later. The stairs are nice. Nice carved stairs. I check for traps, floor not trapped. except that one. Dead gobs in this room, theres a name in Draconic behind one. Im very helpful. I check for doors, doors not trapped, i'm good at trap finding. Hollstein walks into room with pretty dragon door but suddenly more rats. I run in to kill but they bit poor me. Had to drink a potion to feel better. I cant open the doors i really want to go into. Im sad, why isn't it working? We enter this big room with "here be Dragons" on the wall, a cage and desk and theres this gross sobbing in the corner of the room. Im pulled away from my wall reading by my mistress to talk to someone. Imagine my surprise to find another kobold. It's been so long. Too long. I tell him to calm down, he panics some more. Eventual he calms once he gets some rations in his stomach, his name is Mepo. I want some now. "I lost my dragon!" he blubbers. "No, say it isn't so!" What a terrible day for this sad sap kobold, he lost his master. "Well help you find your dragon! My mistress after all is a dragon and i would hate to lose her." He gives me a weird look and turns to my mistress. "Is she a rescue?" hey how rude! but yes its true in a sense... ----
Meepo agrees to take us to his leader, Ustrad. Tells us he was dragon keeper. What am honor. After calming the guards and the fuss over who speaks we see the all watcher Ustrad lounging in a dragon throne with a key in the dragons jaws. I really would like that key. "Who approaches Ustrad?" She calls, and then sees Meepo. "Step forward, you idiot!" He shuffles over, meek. Hallstein step forward, as does Lothar, numbskull. Meepo is sent to the corner of shame for losing the dragon. However, it was stolen. By goblins. Dirty Goblins, unforgivable. Ustrad offers us a reward if we can return the dragon to them. The monk asks if humans have been through here, and apparently some went after the goblins but never returned. That's just great. "Is it a real dragon?" Mistress ask. "yes, he's a white wymling known as calcrix." Why do you worship a dragon?" Why now mistress, bad call! all of the kobolds jeer at my mistress and i cant help but get defensive. "Miss all watcher, my mistress is very tired you see. We had to travel through a village I hid in her bag." Oh no! Stupid, stupid! me and my big mouth! The kobolds become livid, calling my perfect hiding place as undignified and shameful. Though it may be, it keeps me safe. None of these kobolds know the dangers of the surface. "We are the chosen of the dragons, foolish elf!" "She is a dragon!" I announces, getting testy. The flames get hotter. Oh dear. Ustrad raises a claw and everyone go quiet. I miss when i use to do that. "What is your name?" "Lazarus but i'm not worthy of that name yet, so i am just Biscuit." The Kobolds are outcry about my silly name, accusing my mistress of turning me into a slave, i get angry but Ustrad once again silence it. "And where do you hail from." "Dim woods madam. I was separated from tribe, nearly died. Mistress saved me." "How old are you?" "10." "I see, this explains a few things. And you fail to tell you friends of our culture and the greatness of dragons." "I do madam, some don't listen." She seems to have heard enough. She snaps her fingers. "Meepo!" he scurries over. "Yes!" "You shall accompany them." she looks at us. "I hope you return him to use as soon as possible and you." she looks at me. "Will learn what a real dragon is." --------------------------------------
As we walk through the dungeon Mepo whispers in my ear. trying to convince me that mistress Sorsha isn't a dragon. I don't want to believe it's true. She is so powerful and strong, how can she not be. Mepo doesn't seem like a lair but he does seem like a ninny. jumping at any shadow. I should die for Mistress. I tell him prideful that I have faith in Mistress Sorsha. We stumble upon a fountain with more dragon writing. I speak the name and suddenly red ooze drizzles out. Enough for one bottle full. I scurry back to my fallen empty potion bottle and fill her up. Mistress takes a sip and suddenly breaths fire. SEEE, i told Mepo! Shes a dragon! The gobs are up ahead but theres a door there. It scares me. Eventually to glowly cleric opens the door. Irene and lorthor go in but don't come out. Skeletons do. Mistress as great and powerful as she is destroys them without effort. One gets to close so i jump in front hissing as wussy Mepo shivers in fountain. "You dont touch my mistress!" i whack at one and i think back to miss kitty, still in the other room. bravely I jump on the bone mans head and leap into the room. Irene is on the floor dying. I try. But i am not doctor, or miracle worker. She dies in my claws. She was a good kitty. -----
The skeleis are dead so i start savaging. I find a box, with pretty dragon gems. I really like these. "I really, really like these mistress!" I give them to her, an offering to make her smile. Then i find a glass dragon whistle, Its magic. I like magic. I give it a blow but nothing happens. Thats disappointing. Mistress calls and i scurry over.

Dwarf! Not as bad as Gnomes but still! Dwarf! He walks right in, talking to my mistress. He wants to join us! US! Mistress tells me i should be nicer to others. BUT DWARF! He then notices me, I hiss from mistresses lap. As he approaches with that false smile on his stupid face. Mepo agrees, he looks just as wary by the dwarf as i am but hes a sissy hiding by behind Halg. "Are those Kobolds?" "Fear me!" Mistress pick me up by the pits and places me on the group giving me the look of shame. i don't like the look of shame. "Sorry, she's does'nt like strangers. She'll learn." This dwarf nods and he shares our safe spot with us. I give him the eye. IM watching you!. I take out the mysterious whistle again wondering about the mysterious writting. No one knows what it says. I want to know what my new toy does. then it dawns on me. "DWARF! dwarf! I have a whistle with stuff on it. Read it... Please" "i already told you my name is Tok not dwarf! Let me have a look see." He turns it around in his hand the gives it back to me. "its says Night Caller." "Night Caller?" I roam about the hold the whist in my hand. "Night caller!" and i blow in it again. Suddenly something shifts in the dark. I retreat to my mistress and to our horror the shadow crawler steps into the dim candle light. Its Irene! but she's suppose to be dead! She hobbles too us, silent with her one dead eyes focus on me! Sorsha as powerful and great as she is blasts her and i can see the pain in mistresses eyes to harm our dearly departed cat. I hold my cross bow out readying to shoot. "NO! BAd kitty! Please go back to being dead!" Irene then drops to the ground? none of us do anything, stunned. It is i who finally says something. "uhh, stand up?" Irene shuffles her way back to her feet and everyone gos off. "Biscuit! why didn't you tell us you where a necromancer!?" "Im not!" "Its the bloody whistle!" Our cleric speaks up grimacing at the husk of our friend. that makes sense. My new toy is cool. but Irene. I didn't want to do this to her. No i didn't. I go over to her and rip a strip of cloth off my cloak. "Im sorry." I whimper pulling out Irenes dangling eye and wrapping her empty eye socket. If i just clean her up. She'll look good as new. We carry on, Irene holding the lamp as we open doors. I try to kill trap. I failed to kill trap. Irene gets pincushioned by spears. I worry for her but she doesnt seem to feel it. Hallstein, Halg charge! I can only boss Irene around, sorry Irene. The gobs scream in terror seeing her as they continue to pepper her with spears and her little pads get filled with caltrops. She flinch, doesnt feel a thing. Im starting to realize the monster i unintentionally made. Hallstein jumps the fense and I hear him scream. I want to help. Im too short to see what the hub bub is. Halg jumps next and soon. soon the room goes quiet. When i climb the fence the gobs be dead. Hallstein is agaisnt the wall looking ill. I linger near him, checking his wounds. I protect Hallstein. I like Hallstein. When he starts moving i start to follow. I find my mistress and I ask Irene to help our buddies. Wimpy Mepo slowly walks with the druid and her pet. I see a door and i do my thing. I reach for the handle and i hear a clamors of "NO!" i don't listen. i want to know! "Biscuit no!" cries mistress. "oh ok." After fight we climb over the wall and find this meat room. IM not really hungry right now. I don't trust Goblin meat. Next room we find a big room with many doors. So many doors. We open one and me, Mepo, and Sorsha start screaming. Those animals! They mounted kobold heads on the wall! hallstein and everyone clam us down. What a horrible sight. but look. theres patches of ice! Calcix must be near by! We let Hallstein and Dwarf check out the room when out from under the table Scurries a little white thing with wings and blasts them with ice. ITS HIM! Calcrix! he's so adorable! So little! he hiss and snarles, most likely afraid! He bits at Irene and for once it looks like it actually hurt her. "We've come to bring you home!" i shout out to him. Suddenly Halg spears him through with his spear! NO! "WHAT THE F**** Halg! Ill kill you myself if he's dead!" Thank the gods, he's still alive. With our group effort we but him to sleep. Mistress volunteers to carry him. Before he goes night night i give him a little kiss good night. I look at the dwarf. feeling a little bad with how rude i've been. "Sorry. You not bad.... Tok." I scurry off to start searching. I start searching the room and what do i find but a little hoard! "ITS his first hoard! So cute!" i cry out gathering the stuff. As everyone is sorting it out Mepo slides next to me. "So, You like dragons?" "I live for dragons!" "I like dragons to." he's giving me a look but i cant quite place it. "So do i. We have stuff in common. I have to check on my mistress." Mistress is done packing so i scurry over. she's giving me a look. Why is everyone giving me a look. "Mistress, Mepo has a stupid smile on his face again. I don't get why?" "Biscuit! I think Mepo likes you!" "What! I don't know!" "just give it a shot!" "I don't know if he's worthy though. He does take care of Calcrix though." "Why don't you ask him out, you may like it." "Maybe. I'll need to test his worthiness. I am a Kobold of a high degree. I cant like weak men." ----------
We arrive back to Ustrad. She showers us with many gifts! Glorious gifts! She then gifts us the key to her throne but cant get it out. Sorsha tries but cant do it. As her worthy servant i give it a try and out it goes. The Kobolds are in amazement. I am best Kobold. Poor Hallstein is weak. I ask for aid and rest so we stay. yah! i get to meet the other kobolds! Its been too long! I run into Mepo, covered in new dragon bits. "Its dawned on me that you are interested in my affection. You followed when other sissys wouldn't. I will be staying for awhile as my mistress and bodyguards rest. I will give you the honor of being my companion for my stay But, there will be rules to prove your mettle! For now You may walk besides me on romantic walks, sit with me in morning meditation, but no snoot kisses or hand holdsey! You are not worthy yet of the snoot kissies and the hand holdsey!" Mepo gets a wide stupid smile on his face. "Really!" He cries his tail wagging. "Yess, for now. You may kindly show me around tunnels." He immedantly clings to my side.

I goofed. i goofed lots. I checked for traps but arrows still shot at us in this tight hallway. Hallstein wants to throw me. LETS DO IT! "THROW ME HALLSTEIN! Make me FLY!" He gets ready for the toss and suddenly it's dark. I wake up in Mistress Sorshas arm with an empty bottle in her hand. "Did i do it." "...Yes Biscuit, you did." Im at the door. I DID IT! I start checking for traps on the ground and then i find the trap i should have checked before waving everyone in. Oppsy "Did you find the trap now? He yells as i start sweating. "No! Everything fine!" ------------
Hallsteins is so smart. He solved the riddle and i'm not good at them. He solves them fast. there a pit of spikes in the next room but i forget Irene isn't smart anymore. She falls right into them but still good. Im a good scout so i climb the ledge on the other side to be face to face with nasty bugger with mean claws and a stinger. NO way forward, maybe back. I cant lead this nasty to my mistress and everyone. I know i shall fall. Hallstein catches me. "You don't touch my friends!" I take a stab and miss them step off the ledge but nasty thing claws me and it hurts. "Catch meeee!" I shout as i watch as i bypass Hollstein. "ooh s*****!!!" i land on the spikes and it hurts... ----------------
I wake up not feeling well so i climb into a backpack. Packpac is safe. I we heal with kobold tribes a they give me these amazing grubs. Why wont anyone try one? There great. Mepo demonstrates his duty in calming Calrix. What an honor.. Mepo showed me his pebble collection before we head out. Its cool. He's got a few big ones and a bunch of little sparkly ones. --------------
We destroy nasty mummy! We take her stuff to and finally all the Kobolds believe me! I TOLD THEM! Mepo comes up to me tugging my arm. "Biscuit want to see my stick collection next!" "Sure, why not. but you'r not worthy yet so i'm watching Mr. Always watching."
I'm embarrassed to say the least by the events that unfolded in the crypt of the dragon priest. We spent so long trying to hack at the thing, because we knew it would keep coming back. Fire! We needed fire! Everyone was trying to grab treasure and run, because we just couldn't get the torches out in between hacking at the thing, and zombie cat wasn't listening very well... I finally got a torch from someone, and held it to the body. It just was not lighting up!
"We need fuel!" I shout, but most of the crew is already leaving. Dammit what am I going to do.
Monty flaps uselessly in the corner, commentating on our stupidity. I love my bird but he certainly is better at rendering sass than aid. Fuel... what could we use as fuel?
Oh my. I seem to have forgotten the one thing I had been so very excited about only moments ago. I curse Monty for not reminding me.
"I'm an idiot!" I drop the torch, taking out my pack. I find the bottle of red liquid, and take a swig. I blow two massive fireballs from my mouth, sending the body up into flames. There's still one more dose, and I plan to save it.
"Let's roll, Biscuit!"
We leave, heading back to the Kobolds, bypassing the room with the horrible music that kept sending us to almost break our legs in the pit. The little guys are happy to see us. I march to the front of the assembly of little Biscuits, and use my last fire breath. They erupt in cheers, praising me. I find myself surrounded by them, all calling me the Silver Dragon.
