OGL and how I feel about what’s going on (long)
I have been playing D&D since it was invented.
I have played several other RPG’s (I can’t say most because there are new ones coming out all the time) but feel comfortable saying more than the average guy.
I have heard people say every edition will be the end of roleplaying.
I have witnessed one edition that almost was the end of it (at least for our group.)
What the leaked OGL was reported to be was bad for third party creators. No doubt about it.
What the new OGl will be www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1423-an-update-on-the-open-game-license-ogl?fbclid=IwAR3BRVMkIRv8iuDdg5H0wMjnWmu72zQUtiZIC18CbHYNnZoZdyd0V7_oSyo will at least leave it up to creators to decide on a go-forward basis how they want to handle the contract.
That is the prerogative of WotC/ Hasbro. I have no problem with them declaring what they want on a go-forward basis, and it will not be for me to decide whether it’s good for company A, B,C, etc. or not.
I took exception to them trying to erase what had been created in the past and then trying to lie about it’s intent, in the face of the OGL creator’s past and present recordings of its intent, in a blatant marketing position move.
They tried to erase D&D history when 4th edition came out as well, and it led to the creation of their strongest competitor.
And this latest attempt has unified several smaller creators in a way that probably would not have happened otherwise.
More games = more fun. More players = more fun.
I believe this will now turn out to be a good things for us as consumers and as players.
Let’s play a game.
