New Magic Community ideas!
It’s the time of year when we take extra joy in giving things away.
So the lunatic that works with the saner person (you can decide which is which, but you know, don’t you?) is creating new leagues and prizes.
1. Your Magic games count again! You get points for playing, points for winning matches and lose points for missing events and for losing matches. Tournaments, Nights and Leagues all count. The player at the end of the month with the most points will win a fabulous prize (still working on that but it will be worth at least $50, possibly a box.) We have already started tracking for December. There is no additional charge to qualify for this prize.
2. Tuesday is still going to be Commander Night but will now also include Kitchen Table night. Play any format you like. Hopefully we will generate some cross-interest in formats. Entry fee will not change.
3. We are immediately starting a Magic Shandaleague. I have always loved the old Microprose PC game Shandalar, and have been fascinated by trying to recreate the feel in paper Magic. Our latest attempt has you starting with a single pack of Jumpstart. That determines your Wizard’s Magic color. Play to earn coins to upgrade your decks. You can add cards to your decks base on their real-world value. There will be some other restrictions based on color and rarity. This league will give overall points, joust league points, drawing entries, and earn promo cards, not to mention an additional prize at the end of the month. Just like Joust League you can play any day but Saturday is Shandaleague day and is worth extra points. You can challenge Chris to games as well!. This league will re-set each month. There is one single league fee that covers all your plays for the month and the starting pack. We are hoping this will be a fun deck-building/ play experience available to all levels of Magic players without the pressure of a tournament or having to chase sets.
4. We are developing a Magic Quest League. This will be something along the lines of reporting games across multiple formats and possibly other challenges. Once completed there will be a prize. This will be an ongoing achievement league. There is no additional charge to qualify for this prize.
5. Joust League will continue as it always has.
